01 — 06 Our philosophy
Six principles behind our software
01
Optimization
Our first development principle is to build software without unnecessary complexity. Every programming language has its limits. TOIU develops with native technologies such as C, C++, Objective-C, CUDA, Metal, and HIP. We apply the same approach to our interfaces, using Win32 API, Cocoa, GTK4, and TK to reduce bottlenecks and pursue optimization.
02
Cross-platform
Software and libraries that work across operating systems can offer a consistent experience on different hardware. We develop software for Windows, Mac, and Linux, on both x64 and arm64. Building native implementations for each platform presents different challenges from relying on the Java JVM or an interpreter such as Python. We choose this demanding path to make our software lighter and faster, implementing each platform individually with native technologies to avoid bottlenecks in cross-platform libraries.
03
Design
A native GUI does not have to look dated. TOIU applies consistent UI and UX standards to create clean, refined designs. Our shared design system feels at home on each operating system while providing a unified experience across environments. We carefully tune typography, colors, icons, and spacing, and make common functions easy to find and use with fewer steps. Beyond looking good, our software should feel understandable and comfortable from the first use.
04
Resources
Resource use matters just as much as speed. Even on powerful hardware, one resource-heavy application can affect everything else. TOIU works to reduce memory use and executable size, building software that runs quickly with less power. By calling native operating system APIs directly instead of bundling a browser engine, we avoid unnecessary resource use. We develop for longer battery life on laptops and a comfortable experience on older hardware.
05
Privacy
Using software should not require unnecessary collection of personal information. TOIU does not collect usage history, file information, or personal data, and includes no advertising or tracking code. Files are processed directly on your computer without being sent to external servers. All core features work offline, with network access used only when needed, such as for license verification or updates. Even then, we use only the minimum information necessary to protect your privacy.
06
Longevity
Well-made software should remain reliable over time. TOIU builds software you can keep using long after a purchase. With each update, we aim to improve performance and stability on existing hardware rather than make software heavier or demand better hardware. We carefully select proven external libraries and implement core features ourselves to reduce dependencies. This allows us to keep maintaining and improving our software even if a framework loses support or changes its policies.
